Additional Score Techniques V2 in Cubase

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we're goingto move on to our second video as wediscuss the additional techniques fordesigning your score in Cubase butbefore we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the freecontent navigation guide which is aneasy to navigate webpage with links toall the content on this channel andbesides that in the near future I'mgoing to begin adding tips and otherbits of information that will only beavailable there you know things likesimple steps that will get you startedand up and running quick things that arein the videos but are written down insimple steps that serve as quickreminders when you need information downthe road if you're working with programslike wavelab or Cubase plugins or thecable guys shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youand it's absolutely free Okay so let'sget started so in the last video webegan this topic of these additionaltechniques we got into how we can setthe bar lines and all kinds of differentthings and that video and all the videosfor this channel are in the navigationguide and the link below but today let'slead off right away with a great optionfor how we can change the line breaksand by line breaks what's reallyhappening if we look at the score we cansee that we have a number of measures upon the top and then when we get to thebottom we just have these two bars hereand I'm not liking the way this is Iwant to move some of these bars around alittle bit so one of the ways you can dothis is by changing these line breaks sofor example I have this one blankmeasure right here so instead of havingthis blank measure on the end here I'drather move this blank measure down intothis bottom area if I right click and Igo to of my scissors tool and I clickright on this last bar line it actuallyremoves it from this staff and puts itdown here on the bottom great option foreasy designing problem is my other twobars went way down out of view now oronto another page so what I reallywanted to do is move this extra bar andadd it to those previous two bars thatwere on there no big deal because if youswitch from your scissors to your gluetool not only can you split it removethese line breaks but now if I go tothis last bar line here and put the gluetool on it and click it now add it tothose two bars and now I have thesethree bars on the bottom and now thelayout looks perfect so with your gluetool and your split tool you can do somereal cosmetic changes in terms of howthe score is laid out by inserting andremoving these various line breaks youhave an option to actually change thedistance between these staffs you haveto be in scores and the page mode has tobe on but at that point you can click onthe left of any staff and just byclicking and holding it you can drag itaround if you need to whatever I clickthe bottom one kind of read adjusts aswell if I only want one staff to movewithout affecting the others if I holdcontrol and then drag it I can just movethat one step up or downso if your score contains more than onepage in other words many pages forexample the one I'm working on here hasabout 11 pages and I'm on page fiveright now which I'm going to show youhow to identify but if I go to the topof the page and I start scrolling downthis pagewhat I would hope would happen is itwould just go on to page six but itdoesn't do that instead it just goesright back up to the top of page fiveagain and it can only go on page five sofor what I want to show you it'sactually a little easier to see if Izoom out so I'm going to zoom out so Ican see the whole page here at thispoint I don't have to scroll up and downonce I've zoomed out like this I canactually scroll through the pages withmy mouse wheel if I just start spinningit it'll just start moving through thesedifferent pages and I can see my pagesone two three four five six seven on andon and on at the bottom of the screenthere's a very tiny little display thatalso shows the number of the pages andthis is like for me I don't know if itis on your screen but this is likeextremely hard to navigate if you try toclick the little up Arrow or down arrowI mean it's like very tiny butthankfully you can click right in thenumber highlight that and then you canuse your arrow keys to move up or downso if I move down I go through the pagesthat wire back up again so that worksvery well to do that but anyway you canactually assign or change where thesepage breaks occur we talked about linebreaks but you can do the same thingwith page breaks and what that means isfor example let's say this area herewhere I have these blank measures andthen this area right here where I havesome notes maybe I want this stuff tostart on the top of the next page so ifI go over here and highlight make thisthe active staff right where I want itto break just for reference this is Pageseven but once I've highlighted thisactive step I can right click on it nowand I can say move this to the next pageand once I do that when I go to the nextpage those measures that I selected arenow at the beginning of the next page ifI want to move them back again I can goto the same area I can right click onthat and I can see just the oppositemove it to the previous page and then itwill move it back that way so that's theidea of making page breaks and how youcan use themso we've touched on the hide showoptions and I've also said how sometimesthey're a little finicky at least on mysystem but they are available and let meshow you a couple of things that happenyou can pretty much hide or show justabout anything and this comes in handyif you're trying to draw some kind ofgraphic or you want to hide out a bunchof extra notes that you just don't wantto see but whatever you do the steps arekind of the same for example let's say Iwant to get rid of this bar line righthere if I just drag over it and selectit then I right click on it I can sayhide show and it's gone let's say I wantto bring out a view of these timesignatures if I select over them and Iright click on them and I say hide showthen they're gone let's say I want toget rid of these rests if I select overthem take the option to hide and showand then they're gone now bringing themback into view what you want to do is goup to this visibility bar and hit theoption that says hide and the way it'ssupposed to work is there anythingthat's hidden you'll get kind of a ghostpicture of it here but more importantlyyou'll see the word hide here again issomething that may be slightly unclearand how it works in other words I'vemasked or hidden three differentelements here the bar line the timesignature and the rests these hide wordskind of Stack Up on top of each other soif I want to unhide something forexample if I click this first one to getrid of these what you want to do is hitthe backspace key and that one broughtthe bar back in now I have the word hideagain because that was the one below itif I click on it again and hit backspacenow that brings in the time signatureagain if I click it again and hitbackspace that brings the rest back inif I go to this bottom one down here andclick on it and then hit backspace thenit brings that time signature back in ifI hit it again and backspace now itbrings the rest back in and the wordhide has disappeared so on the one handeasy to get rid of them by just clickingon them and hitting backspace and thatbrings your elements back into viewwhat's not so clear is because they'restacked up on top of each other you mayor may not get to the hidden elementthat you're trying to get to untilyou've already erased the three otherelements that are on top once you'redone with that you probably want to goback up to this visibility and uncheckthat so let me kind of show you one sidenote to this hide show thing if I rehideThese Bars I'm going to select them andhit hide show I'm going to hit theserests and select them and hit hide showso if I go to the hide option select itif I can see the kind of ghost likepicture and that's the trick if you cansee it but for example I can see thatthe rests are blurred out right hereonce I've clicked on this hide option ifI click and drag over that in my case itcomes back on in kind of a pink color atthat point I can take that particularobject and I can right click on it againand say hide show and that will bringthat object back in without trying tofind out what level the hide word is onas long as I can actually see thoseobjects I can click on them right rightclick item and bring them back in if Igo over this bar and I click and drag itit comes back in pink I can right clickand say hide show and now not only hasthe bar showed up but the hide wordshave disappeared as well now I hit somenotes that were in this area and you'llnotice just by checking the hide optionthose particular notes didn't come backin because there's some other morespecific options up here one says hiddennotes so if I hit the hidden notesoption now I can see I've got a wholebunch of like Ghost Notes here which nowI can again select over right click onthem and say hide show okay let's talk alittle bit about multi by rests we kindof touched on it at some point earlieron but if you look at the score thisfirst part is nothing but rests in otherwords there's no notes there's nothingbut rest throughout and if I select anyrest by just click and drag over it onthe right I'm immediately giving someproperties for the rests the first onesays consolidate and if I put my mouseover this and start spinning it up andyou can pretty much spin it up from oneto any other numbers above that but theminute I spin it from off to number oneit makes a huge change on the score andwhat it's done is look for any place onthe score where there are rests as youcan see on this any place where therewere a large number of rests it firstgrouped them into groups of 24. sothroughout my first part of my scorebecause I had no notes playing oranything just a lot of empty space itmade all these groupings of 24. now onceit got to a point where there wasn't 24left then it started grouping them intoeight bars and then once it couldn'tfind eight bars anymore it grouped theminto four bars so it kind ofautomatically picked these amounts ofgroupings to kind of like cover largeamounts of rests so the next thing tounderstand is if I go to one of theserest the ones that let's say are groupedinto four I could do it with any ofthese but I'm going to take this onebeforeit brings up this properties again andwhat happens with this consolidateoption is it really becomes a thresholdcontrol if I start spinning this up onetwo three it's going to break thesegroups of four back up to individualrests I'm going to do it it's at numberone I'm going to go to number two numberthree and finally hit number four andjust like that it took those rests andbroke them up into individual rest againI have to group things into four beforeit's going to consolidate them now whatit left is these ones in that are eightsand 24. if I was to start spitting thisup again and reach the number eight I'mgonna go ahead and do it four five sixseven eight the minute I do that allthose groups of eight got broke up stillallowing anything that we had these 24groups to still stay in place so if youexperiment with this you can think ofthis Consolidated it's basically athreshold level for what you're going tosee on these Consolidated rests allright I'm gonna wrap it up for today asusual if you haven't grabbed yournavigation guide be sure to grab thatbefore you go has links to all all thecontent on the channel ever growing andfree to use inserting the pagebreaks we got more into talking abouthow to hide and show various objectsthen we ended up discussing multi-bararrests and what happens when youconsolidate them on your property screenis we keep moving along on the topic ofthe score going layer by layer andgetting better understanding all thetime and hopefully making all thesetools easier to access and our wholecreative
